Adelaide University Choral Society
Overview
The Adelaide University Choral Society is a choir of approximately 80
young people, including university students from all faculties as well
as non-students and staff. Led by accomplished conductor and organist
Peter Kelsall, AUCS has established a reputation as one of Adelaide’s
premier large choirs.
Performing between two and four concerts a year in Adelaide, AUCS has
a varied musical repertoire. Highlights of concerts in recent years
include Handel’s Joshua in 2002 (together with the Adelaide Philharmonia
Chorus and Adelaide Art Orchestra, conducted by Graham Abbott), The
Ninth Hour in 2003 (an a capella concert of classical and twentieth
Century sacred music, including title work by Adelaide composer Bruce
Stewart, commissioned by AUCS).
In 2004, AUCS performed Rutter’s Requiem and Howells’ Requiem in
Christ Church, North Adelaide. The final concert for 2004 was choral
arrangements of 1970s music by Pink Floyd, Queen and Andrew Lloyd
Webber, together with local rock band Perestroika. AUCS concerts in 2005
have featured the a capella Victoria Requiem in May, and in October, the
Duruflé Requiem, accompanied by celebrated English church organist
Thomas Trotter.
In addition to its regular concert programme, AUCS is often asked to
provide groups of singers for weddings or corporate functions. We can
perform a wide range of madrigals, motets, hymns and popular songs. If
