|
|
DH and I are thinking of going to either Fiji or Vanuatu in May, and have no idea where to stay (or which place to actually go to - he wants Vanuatu and I want Fiji, but both of us are happy with either choice).
Any suggestions?
Thanks. |

I haven't been to Fiji, but we went to Vanuatu in April this year (it's actually where H2B proposed).
If you're going to visit Vanuatu it's best to split your time between Port Vila and one of the outlying islands. There's a limited number of things to see and do in Vila and it's the islands which really give you the whole Pacific experience.
We stayed 3 nights in Vila and then another 4 nights (I think) on Tanna Island.
In Vila we stayed at Moorings, which is a mid priced hotel. We found the facilities, staff and food excellent for the price. While in Vila we visited the Mele Cascades which were stunning. We also hired a car and spent one day driving right around the island, which was fabulous because we stopped at different villages and met the locals, which was a real eye-opener.
On Tanna we stayed at White Grass Ocean Resort, which is the most luxurious resort on the island. Bear in mind that Pacific Island luxury is slightly different to Aussie city luxury! We had our own hut and the resort was beautiful, great food and fantastic service.
We did a Black Magic tour, snorkelled the Blue Cave and of course visited the live volcano which is Tanna's main claim to fame. If I was tossing up between Fiji and Vanuatu, the chance to actually stand on the rim of a live volcano and watch lava crashing into the air would certainly tip the scales in Vanuatu's favour! It was an unforgettable experience. H2B told me later that he actually considered proposing on the rim of the volcano, but he was too worried that he might drop the ring into the crater!
It really depends how much time you have and what you're interested in doing. I'd be happy to answer any more specific questions you might have. _________________ Read my Personal Blog or my Wedding Blog!

We are honeymooning in Fiji at Outrigger on the Lagoon.
There are some great bargains for flights if you can go via Sydney; Sydney to Nadi is $200! |
